Early professional life was wonderful and exciting for me. I lived in Santa Monica in those days and enjoyed that lifestyle. Then, I was laid off from a career position as Interior Designer of a major hotel design firm in Beverly Hills. My inner dialog was "Where do I go from here?" This was the first in a series of life changes. I have found that when I embraced the new circumstances and trusted myself, everything worked out.
I became a student of life. I went to Spain with my younger brothers where we traveled extensively on a shoestring budget (from my meager savings). Along with the sights I took in culture and art and as we traveled I learned more about the people we visited. The artistic history of people is my natural interest. I returned home filled with renewed hope and ideas. After enrolling full time in school to complete my dream of becoming an artist, I embraced new ideas and pursuits. Mixed Media Expression began to frame my work. These included; Tile, Mosaic, Collage, Painting, and Photography. Vivid and inspiring memories of places and things I experienced are resources I incorporated in my new endeavors. Later, as hotel projects took me to the east, new cultures, adventures and ideas presented themselves. Asian influence became a new chapter.
I came to know a dear woman who became my mentor. Time after time we talked about where I was headed. I began to find a balance of activities in life outside of my profession. Family became a larger part of my life. Although I left home in Chicago at an early age to find my own path, I began to spend regular holidays with my parents, siblings and extended family. Upon graduating with my art degree, I returned to work. I believe that combining art and design elements work well together in serving clients in the hospitality industry.
Eventually in Las Vegas I purchased a beautiful home which, of course, became another medium for "life imitating art" as walls, floors, amenities, and even the structure itself were altered. Las Vegas is a unique culture which I embrace. My work with hotels, casinos, and local valley businesses have provided new opportunities in materials, ideas and expression.
I hope you will enjoy these collections I'm sharing. They are the result of many years of visions. Visions that come to me from surroundings and events that compel me to take up a brush or whatever else inspires me to create magic.
